Upon her death in 2003, Joan Kroc, widow of McDonald's founder, Ray Kroc, bequeathed in her estate $1.6 billion to the Salvation Army for the sole purpose of establishing centers of opportunity, education, recreation and inspiration throughout the United States to be known as "The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center". One of the most recently opened communities was the 53,000 square foot facility in the Pittsburgh neighborhood of Atlanta, GA. The Salvation Army Southern Territory Headquarters needed interior signage that directed visitors around the facility and identified public rooms and spaces. One of the several challenges of this project was that the tactile and braille signage for the interior rooms had to have changeable panels to allow for maximum flexibility in the use of the spaces. SouthWood created a hierarchical signage program that met the client's needs and budget.
